Maggie Grace (born Margaret Grace Denig November 21, 1983) is an American actress, best recognized for her performances in the roles of Shannon Rutherford on the ABC television show Lost and Kim Mills in the Taken trilogy. Born in Worthington Ohio she quit high school in order to relocate in Los Angeles with her mother following her divorce from her parents. They were struggling to survive at the time she landed her first role in acting in the film Rachel's Room's main character. Her portrayal as Martha Moxley, a 15-year-old victim of murder in the TV film Murder in Greenwich in 2002, earned her a nomination for a Young Artist Award. In 2004 Grace was chosen to play Shannon Rutherford in the television series Lost where she was a main character for the initial two seasons, and was awarded an Screen Actors Guild Award shared with the ensemble cast. Grace left the show to pursue a film career. The actress had been on the show with Tom Welling opposite in The Fog in 2005. The role she played was Kim Mills opposite Liam Neeson (both in Taken in 2008) as Suburban Girl and the Jane Austen Book Club. Taken 2 (2012), Taken 3 2014 and Taken 4 (2014) are her re-casts of roles. Grace returned to Shannon's character as Shannon in Lost for two episodes, including the series final. She was in 2013 for the sixth episode of Californication. The role she plays is Faith, a groupie who acts as a muse to the stars, and draws the eye of Hank Moody (David Duchovny). Gyllenhaal is a part of the family, and is the older cousin of Jake Gyllenhaal. Her acting career started as a young teenager when she appeared in small roles in several films by her father. Also, she worked alongside her brother in the 2001 cult movie Donnie Darko. Her next appearance was in Adaptation Confessions of a Dangerous Mind as well as Mona Lisa Smile (2003). Gyllenhaal was nominated for the Golden Globe Award in both the romantic comedy Sherrybaby (2005) as well as the romantic comedy Secretary (2002). The two films received acclaim from critics. Her fame grew for her role as Rachel Dawes, a superhero in The Dark Knight (2008) due to the success of several commercial films that she was a part of in 2006. For her performance as the single mom in Crazy Heart (2009) she was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. In the following years, she appeared in dramatics and comedies: Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang (2010) Hysteria (2011) and The Won't Back Down (2012). The other roles she's played include Secret Service agents in White House Down (2013, action thriller) and actors in Frank (2014, drama The Kindergarten Teacher 2018) in addition to her role as the Kindergarten Teacher. Gyllenhaal's first film as a filmmaker and writer took place in 2021, with The Lost Daughter, a psychological drama that won her the Venice International Film Festival Best Screenplay Award. The film also received an Academy Award nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay.
